Shoprite adds airtime, data and digital vouchers to Sixty60
Shoprite has added prepaid airtime, data and digital vouchers to its Sixty60 delivery app.
Customers can buy services from several mobile networks and vouchers for platforms such as Apple’s App Store, Google Play, Uber and PlayStation.
The move lets Shoprite offer these services through an app used for grocery shopping, where banking apps are currently the preferred way to buy airtime and data for many people, according to Shoprite.
It also adds to Shoprite’s growing financial services business.
Shoprite has begun selling prepaid airtime, data and digital vouchers through its Sixty60 app.
Customers can buy services for five mobile networks and vouchers for Apple’s App Store, Google Play, Uber and PlayStation.
Purchases are sent by SMS to the buyer or a recipient, with no minimum basket value.
The move adds Sixty60 to Shoprite’s existing value-added services business, which operates through tills, its Money Market Account and spaza-shop payment terminals.
Shoprite said it was following customers, while noting that banking apps are the preferred channel for 61% of airtime and data purchases, according to its figures.
