Ruto accuses Trans Nzoia governor of obstructing national projects

President William Ruto criticised Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya during a visit to the county on October 10.

Ruto said Natembeya was obstructing development projects funded by the national government and accused him of promoting tribal and divisive politics.

Natembeya, who was not at the event, is a critic of Ruto’s administration.

The dispute comes ahead of Kenya’s 2027 general election, when candidates are expected to compete for the governorship.

Ruto said his government had committed money to roads, housing and markets in the county, including Sh1.2 billion for the Endebess-Bwala-Posta road.

He also said extra funding would go to Wamalwa Kijana Referral Hospital, which he said needed to be transformed.

Ruto named several people interested in challenging Natembeya in the 2027 election, but the sources do not say whether Natembeya responded to his accusations.
