Lagos waste authority seals more than 25 buildings over alleged violations
The Lagos Waste Management Authority, or LAWMA, sealed more than 25 premises along Ago Palace Way in the Okota area of Lagos.
The premises included a Mobil filling station, and the authority said they were linked to alleged environmental violations.
LAWMA also cleared refuse from road medians and areas near bridges, where it said illegal dumping was a recurring problem.
Some premises had illegal stalls or street traders, and officials arrested cart pushers over alleged dumping.
The operation followed complaints from residents in August about overflowing rubbish and delays in its removal, despite payments for collection.
LAWMA urged residents and traders to use approved waste collection channels and said it would keep carrying out clean-ups and enforcement operations across Lagos.
