South Africa boosts security after anti-immigrant protests turn violent
Protests against immigrants turned violent in Johannesburg and Durban, with cars set on fire, shops looted and people attacked.
The unrest followed false claims that a government directive would automatically give legal status to undocumented migrants.
The directive concerned a court ruling that says asylum seekers must be allowed to apply even if they entered without required documents.
Home Affairs withdrew the directive and said it would prepare a new plan, while police increased security.
