Apple AirPods 5 offer stronger noise cancelling in an open-fit design
Apple's AirPods 5 improve noise cancelling while keeping the open-fit design of the previous model.
The earbuds are aimed at people who prefer not to use the silicone tips found on many noise-cancelling models.
They start at £119 and come in versions with or without a wireless charging case.
Their sound is fuller than that of most open-fit rivals, and their noise cancelling can compete with many similarly priced earbuds that use silicone tips.
They still let in some high-pitched noise and lack the fit support needed for vigorous exercise.
Battery life ranges from four to more than five hours with noise cancelling, depending on the version, and the case provides up to 20 or 22 hours in total.
Apple’s AirPods 5 add improved noise cancelling to an open-fit design without silicone ear tips.
A Guardian review says their noise cancelling can quiet busy roads, engine noise and background chatter, but struggles with higher-pitched sounds.
The earbuds come in versions with or without a wireless charging case, with prices starting at £119.
The review says the AirPods 5 are comfortable for everyday use but may not stay secure during vigorous exercise.
Battery life with noise cancelling is up to four hours for the cheaper version and slightly more than five hours for the wireless-case version.
