Turkey plans identity requirement for cigarette purchases
Turkey is considering new rules for buying cigarettes as part of its efforts to tackle tobacco use.
Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu said cigarette purchases would require identity documents and a Turkish national ID number.
The government plans to submit a bill on the change to parliament within a few weeks.
The proposal has not yet been passed into law.
If parliament approves it, the identity requirement would change how cigarettes are sold in Turkey.
