Brain stimulation centre opens at medical institute in Guntur

Lalitha PVS Institute of Medical Sciences in Guntur has opened a brain stimulation centre.

It will offer repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation, or rTMS, as part of rehabilitation for stroke survivors and some patients with other neurological conditions.

The treatment uses magnetic pulses to stimulate specific areas of the brain and change neural activity.

It may help some patients with limb weakness, speech difficulties, muscle stiffness or certain thinking problems.

The treatment is non-invasive, but it is meant to support—not replace—physiotherapy, occupational therapy or speech therapy.

The institute also offers other rehabilitation services, including swallowing therapy, robotic gloves and gait training.

The centre aims to help patients regain movement, communication skills and independence, but no further plans or timelines are given.
