KPN outage disrupts phone access to several Dutch university hospitals

A technical outage at telecom provider KPN disrupted landline calls for some customers in the Netherlands.

Several university hospitals, including those in Utrecht, Maastricht, Nijmegen, Rotterdam and Groningen, reported problems with phone access.

KPN said the fault began overnight at one of its network locations, but did not identify the location or say how long the disruption would last.

The company said the outage was not caused by a fire or a hack.

It rerouted some calls and said this had resolved most of the impact, though a smaller group of business customers still had problems.

Some hospitals provided alternative numbers for urgent matters, and the emergency number 112 remained available.

The sources did not say when all affected phone services would be restored.
