Antonelli could clinch F1 title at US Grand Prix in Austin
Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli leads the 2026 Formula 1 standings with 340 points, 102 ahead of team-mate George Russell.
The United States Grand Prix in Austin is his first chance to secure the championship, with five races still to follow.
Six drivers remain mathematically in contention, and a maximum of 150 points is still available this season.
Antonelli needs to leave Austin at least 125 points ahead to be certain of the title, because that is the maximum rivals can score over the remaining five races.
If he wins in Austin and Russell finishes ninth or lower, Antonelli could take the title on a countback of race wins.
Russell finishing eighth or higher would keep the title fight alive.
Other rivals also need to be unable to catch Antonelli; for example, a win would end Max Verstappen’s title hopes, while Lewis Hamilton’s result could keep him in contention.
