Iranian man executed hours after marrying imprisoned girlfriend by phone

Iranian authorities executed Alireza Sepahi hours after he married his girlfriend by phone from prison.

Sepahi, 25, was sentenced to death, while Mahsat Keshani, 22, was serving a prison sentence.

The couple had been arrested during protests against the government in Iran earlier in 2026, according to one account.

Keshani asked for permission to marry before Sepahi’s execution, and officials allowed the ceremony.

They exchanged vows over a prison phone with their fathers listening; the ceremony lasted about nine minutes.

Keshani received a Quran, sweets and a red rose as traditional gifts.

Sepahi was executed after the wedding, but the accounts differ on whether this happened on Sunday or early Monday.
