Fighting intensifies as Houthis tighten siege of Yemen’s Taiz
Houthi fighters have tightened their siege of Taiz, a city in Yemen held by forces loyal to the internationally recognised government.
They have blocked all exits and launched attacks overnight.
More than 60 people were reported killed in fighting over 24 hours, though the sides gave different figures for their own losses.
Government-aligned forces said 22 of their fighters died, while Houthi military sources said at least 40 of their fighters were killed.
The Houthis are continuing to fight in Taiz governorate despite Saudi airstrikes, and they said they were sending reinforcements.
On Sunday, the Health Ministry warned that medicine, medical equipment and fuel were close to running out.
The siege could worsen the humanitarian situation, and the Houthi movement has not said when it will ease the blockade.
