Electric vehicles gain ground in Switzerland’s heavy truck market
Switzerland’s commercial vehicle market was nearly flat in the first nine months of 2026, with new registrations up 0.9% from the same period a year earlier.
At the same time, electric vehicles made up a growing share of new heavy commercial vehicles.
More than one in four newly registered vehicles weighing over 3.5 tonnes was fully electric.
The share reached 40% for vehicles weighing between 3.5 and 16 tonnes, and 27.4% for vehicles weighing at least 16 tonnes.
Electric models were much less common among vehicles under 3.5 tonnes.
One reason is that heavier electric vehicles can benefit more from cost savings, including exemption from Switzerland’s heavy vehicle charge.
The figures cover registrations through September, and no further developments are stated.
