Road and tourism projects bring new income to a village in Henan

Yanglingzhuang is a village in Ye County, in central China’s Henan province.

A 94-kilometre road there overlaps the route taken by the Red 25th Army during the Long March more than 90 years ago.

The army fought at Wulipo, helping its main force move west, and later reached northern Shaanxi.

Today, a monument marks the battle site, while the road brings visitors to nearby scenic and camping areas.

The village has developed tourism projects and uses land, wind power and other assets to generate income.

Its collective income was more than 700,000 yuan last year, and the village uses some of it to pay residents’ medical insurance.

Tourism and improved roads have also created work for villagers and made it easier to travel to fields.
