INSS application backlog falls to 1.2 million as officials seek to curb lawsuits
The INSS handles applications for pensions and other benefits in Brazil.
Its backlog fell to 1.2 million requests in September, down from a peak of 3.1 million this year.
The ministry and the judiciary have also agreed to try to reduce lawsuits involving benefit claims.
Shorter waits and fewer court cases could help people get decisions on their claims sooner.
