Saudi Arabia forecast calls for thunderstorms, heavy rain and possible flooding

Saudi Arabia’s National Center for Meteorology forecast more rain on Tuesday across much of the country.

It expects moderate to heavy thunderstorms in parts of Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha and Makkah, with possible flash flooding, hail and winds that stir up dust.

Lighter to moderate rain is forecast in parts of Najran, Madinah, Hail, Tabuk, Al-Jouf, the Northern Borders, Riyadh and the Eastern Province.

Fog may form overnight and early in the morning along coastal areas of Tabuk, Madinah, Makkah and the Eastern Province, reducing visibility.

The forecast also warns that winds and waves could strengthen in parts of the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf during thunderstorms.

This matters because flooding, poor visibility and rough seas can make travel and marine conditions more hazardous.

The forecast gives no further information about what conditions will be like after Tuesday.
