MathRocks Fest 4.0 to bring science educators to Mexico City in November

MathRocks Fest 4.0 is scheduled for Nov.

15 at Expo Reforma in Mexico City.

The science and education festival will bring together more than 30 online educators, scientists and science communicators from Mexico and other countries.

The event comes amid concern about weak mathematics learning in Mexico and Latin America, highlighted by recent PISA results.

Festival organizer Jhonatan Castro says maths should be taught through practical examples rather than as a set of rules to memorize.

He supports restricting phones in primary schools, but says older students should learn to use technology, including artificial intelligence, responsibly.

In his view, students can use AI tools if they can also explain the reasoning behind their answers.

The festival aims to make science and mathematics more engaging by connecting them with everyday interests and technology.
