Starter homes make up a smaller share of US listings than in 2019
Starter homes are lower-priced homes, defined in the report as about 80% of a metro area's median list price.
They made up a smaller share of US listings in August 2026 than in 2019.
Their prices also rose 30.8% over that period, from about $260,000 to $340,000.
Some metro areas, including Boise and Portland, saw starter homes take a larger share of listings, while several Sun Belt areas saw declines.
