Journalist Hamurabi Huesca Manzano killed in Mexico’s Oaxaca state

Hamurabi Huesca Manzano, who ran the news website Pinotepa Comunica, was shot dead on Friday in Oaxaca, in southern Mexico.

He also worked as a taxi driver.

State prosecutors say an armed group fired at him and two other men.

Prosecutors said one line of inquiry is that the shooting grew out of a dispute between local criminal groups, and that another man, known as El Dario, may have been the intended target.

Accounts differ about where the attack happened, and officials have not said whether Huesca Manzano’s journalism was a motive.

The prosecutor’s office says the attackers have been identified but has not named them.

Article 19 has called on prosecutors to give his journalistic work priority in the investigation.

The killing is part of a wider danger for journalists in Mexico, where advocacy groups say nine media workers have been killed this year.
