Two Renoir paintings stolen from a French museum are recovered
Two paintings by French artist Auguste Renoir have been recovered after they were stolen from a museum in Cagnes-sur-Mer, southern France.
The theft happened on 8 September at the Renoir Museum, which is in the artist’s former home.
The paintings still missing after the break-in were Portrait of Madame Colonna Romano and Young Woman at the Well.
Thieves initially took four paintings, but two were dropped in the museum garden as they fled.
The stolen works are valued at about €9 million, or $10.5 million.
Six people have been arrested in connection with the theft, but authorities have not announced charges.
The mayor has not said where the recovered paintings were found or what condition they are in.
