PKS says it is discussing response to calls to impeach Indonesia’s vice president
Indonesia’s Prosperous Justice Party, known as PKS, is discussing how to respond to calls to impeach Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
PKS official Mardani Ali Sera said the Constitutional Court found no document showing that Gibran had completed high school.
He said citizens and political parties have the right to respond to the court’s decision, but PKS is seeking what it considers the best course for the country.
The court rejected a legal challenge over Gibran’s education qualification when he registered for the 2024 presidential election.
The people who brought that challenge plan to seek meetings with Indonesia’s parliament, regional representatives and political parties.
They want lawmakers to begin impeachment proceedings, which would involve parliament, the court and the People’s Consultative Assembly.
The next step described is their effort to arrange those meetings; PKS has not announced a course of action.
