92-year-old woman reported over three attacks on former mayor’s grave

Police in Treviglio, near Bergamo in northern Italy, say a 92-year-old woman damaged the grave of former mayor Ermanno Riganti three times.

Riganti was the city’s mayor from 1965 to 1975.

The first incident was reported on August 14, and the damage was repeated twice more.

A piece of granite bearing an insult was left beside Riganti’s photograph.

Investigators say the suspected motive was an old grievance linked to the city’s expropriation of land belonging to the woman’s family in the 1960s.

The woman has been reported to authorities, and the damage has been paid for.

The sources give no further details about what action may follow.
