Indonesia Seeks Green Investment Through Stronger Carbon Markets

Indonesia wants to strengthen its carbon market to attract international funding and green investment.

The government is preparing to promote this approach at the UN climate conference COP31, which is scheduled to take place in Antalya, Türkiye.

Food Coordinating Minister Zulkifli Hasan said potential investment could support forestry, energy, agriculture, waste management, and coastal and marine ecosystems.

The government has set out a policy framework for carbon pricing and national greenhouse gas emissions control in a 2025 presidential regulation.

The effort matters because drought, disruptions to farm production, and forest and land fires affect both food security and people's livelihoods.

Indonesia is also considering projects such as low-emission rice farming, restoring degraded land, turning waste into energy, and protecting mangroves.

The delegation is expected to seek practical international cooperation and concrete investment at COP31.
