Grecia Quiroz calls for national march against violence and impunity

Grecia Quiroz, the mayor of Uruapan in Michoacán, has called for peaceful marches across Mexico on November 1, 2026.

The date marks one year since Carlos Manzo, her husband and Uruapan’s former mayor, was shot dead at a public Day of the Dead celebration.

Quiroz says the marches should demand justice for Manzo and draw attention to victims of violence, disappearances, extortion and impunity.

She has called on people from many groups to take part, including families of missing people, threatened transport workers and businesses affected by extortion.

In Uruapan, organizers plan to gather at 10:00 a.m.

at the Lázaro Cárdenas Monument.

The investigation into Manzo’s killing is ongoing, and 31 people have been detained and brought before a judge over their alleged involvement.

The marches are planned as simultaneous, peaceful gatherings in different parts of Mexico.
