Puebla governor calls for stronger cases to prevent detainees’ release

Puebla Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier has urged officials to strengthen investigations and court cases so people detained for crimes are not released because of procedural errors.

He said institutions must act lawfully and respect human rights and due process.

Armenta rejected what he called a “revolving door” in the justice system, where detainees are released after their arrest.

The state says its security strategy involves federal, state and municipal authorities, including the armed forces and National Guard.

Coordinated operations have led to arrests of people linked to different criminal groups, according to the state government.

The government says it will continue working to fight extortion, protect families and ensure people can travel freely.

Further security operations are expected to continue, alongside efforts to prepare stronger evidence and case files.
