Mexico says public audit findings do not yet prove wrongdoing or losses
Mexico’s Secretariat of Anti-Corruption and Good Government said public audit findings are still being reviewed.
It said an observation is not, by itself, proof of administrative misconduct or a loss to federal public funds.
Audits are the first step in a process that can take several months, and institutions can submit documents and explanations.
If those materials address the findings, the review can end without an investigation.
If concerns remain, officials investigate whether there is enough evidence to suspect wrongdoing.
An investigation does not mean a person has been found responsible or will be punished; they must have a chance to respond.
The ministry can decide cases involving non-serious violations, while serious cases go to the Federal Court of Administrative Justice.
The findings are still being clarified, and the ministry said no administrative violation has yet been established.
Mexico’s Secretariat for Anti-Corruption and Good Government said audit findings do not by themselves establish administrative violations or financial losses to the federal government.
The Secretariat said recently reported findings are from the first stage of an audit process and remain subject to clarification and investigation.
It said no administrative violation has yet been determined in the reviews discussed.
Audits can lead to investigations if observations remain unresolved, but an investigation does not mean a sanction has been decided.
The Secretariat said serious administrative violations, if established, are referred to the Federal Tribunal of Administrative Justice.
