China to increase economic support in the fourth quarter

China’s National Development and Reform Commission plans to increase economic support in the fourth quarter, the final three months of the year.

Its head, Zheng Shanjie, made the announcement at a meeting with private companies in Beijing.

Businesses at the meeting described pressure from changes in global supply and demand, commodity prices and competition in technology.

They also said government measures had helped them manage risks and steady expectations.

The commission said it would coordinate existing and new policies and consider further measures to support the economy.

It also plans to move ahead with major projects, including networks for water, electricity, computing, communications, underground utilities and logistics.

The stated aims are to boost domestic demand, strengthen supply chains and support China’s growth targets for the year.
