Kyle Filipowski Still Sidelined as He Recovers From Back Surgery

Kyle Filipowski, a forward-center for the Utah Jazz, is recovering from surgery for a herniated disc in his back.

He had the operation over the summer and has spent the season’s lead-up rehabbing.

Although Jazz president Austin Ainge previously said Filipowski was cleared for training camp, he has not yet resumed on-court work and missed both preseason games.

Coach Will Hardy says Filipowski is making progress and hopes he will return soon, but the team has not given a date.

Filipowski said at media day that he felt back to normal and better than the previous year.

His absence leaves Utah short in the frontcourt, where starting center Jusuf Nurkic is also out with a toe injury for at least four weeks.

Filipowski appeared in 77 games for Utah last season, including 41 starts.
