IAF chief says US has made no official offer to sell India F-35 jets

India's air force chief, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, said the United States has made no official offer to sell India F-35 fighter jets.

He spoke in Delhi while the Indian Air Force was hosting the Tarang Shakti exercise at Jodhpur Air Force Station in Rajasthan.

The US F-35 is taking part in the multinational exercise for the first time.

Singh joked that US personnel would not let Indian officials get near the aircraft, despite talk of selling it.

Seven foreign countries, including the US, France, Germany and Australia, are participating in the exercise.

The event brings air forces together, but Singh's remarks do not indicate that India has received a formal proposal to buy the jets.

The sources give no next step on a possible F-35 sale.
