Flood in central Nepal leaves five missing and sweeps away homes and bridges

A landslide in Chumnubri village in Nepal’s Gorkha district blocked the Budhi Gandaki River and triggered flooding downstream.

The flood swept away houses and two suspension bridges, damaged a hydroelectric project camp and washed away a highway bridge linking Gorkha with Dhading district.

Two women and three men are missing, and officials reported no casualties.

At least 82 people were rescued, according to the national disaster authority.

The Budhi Gandaki flows into the Trishuli River, which was affected downstream by a catastrophic flood in August that killed 1,457 people, with thousands still missing.

Authorities have urged people along the river in several districts to move to safer places.

Army and police rescue teams have reached the area and are monitoring conditions as search and rescue work continues.
