The Tamil Nadu government is changing how it manages its artificial intelligence programme.

The existing Tamil Nadu Artificial Intelligence Mission will become a not-for-profit company.

A new government company called Tamil Nadu AI Vision will handle commercial activities.

It may operate AI computers, lease land and infrastructure, invest in AI projects and manage assets that earn money.

The government also wants the mission to cover quantum technology, gaming, animation, visual effects, comics and extended reality.

Five special AI centres are planned for healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing, the Tamil language and climate.

The state plans to update its data-centre policy to support the energy and computing needs of AI.

It also plans studies on quantum communication and a platform linking smaller businesses with start-ups.

Tamil Nadu Artificial Intelligence Mission will be renewed and incorporated as a Section 8 not-for-profit company.

Tamil Nadu AI Vision will be established as a government company.

Data-centre policy
The Data Centre Policy, first released in 2021, will be revamped for AI-compute, energy and environmental requirements.
Additional initiatives
The government plans a feasibility study for a quantum communication corridor and a Tamil Nadu Innovation Exchange linking MSMEs, industries and start-ups.
