Tamil Nadu unveils AI roadmap, 5 lakh youth skilling plan
The government of Tamil Nadu, a state in India, made a big plan about Artificial Intelligence, which is when computers are taught to do smart things like humans.
The plan was shared in a special money report called the revised budget.
The government wants to teach many young people about AI so they can get good jobs in the future.
They hope to train five lakh young students, which is a very big number, by the year 2031.
They also want to build a whole new city just for AI and smart technology called Arivagam.
More schools will start teaching AI, robotics, and digital tools to students from class 6 to class 12.
The government also wants to use AI to make its offices faster and easier for people to use.
People will be able to get many more government services on their phones through a chatbot.
The finance minister who shared the plan said AI will improve people's daily lives and help young people become the main winners of this technology revolution.
This way, Tamil Nadu hopes to become a leader in the digital world.
Tamil Nadu presented a 2026-27 revised budget with an end-to-end AI ecosystem roadmap covering education, workforce, research, industry and public administration.
The flagship AI Industry Development Programme aims to skill 5 lakh students in engineering colleges, polytechnics and ITIs by 2031, with partnerships including IIT Madras.
The government announced 'Arivagam', India's first dedicated AI and Innovation City, with a feasibility study at an estimated cost of Rs 5 crore.
The TN Spark school AI programme will expand from 5,000 government schools to an additional 2,600 schools in 2026-27 under a three-tier curriculum.
The Namma Arasu WhatsApp chatbot will expand from 76 services across 20 departments to 275 public welfare services, and e-Sevai centres will be upgraded to e-Sevai 2.0.
The revised budget allocated Rs 2,022 crore to labour welfare and skill development, Rs 398 crore to the AI, IT and digital services department, and Rs 17,150 crore to special programme implementation.
