Bengaluru Police Arrest West Bengal Man for Alleged Terror Links
Police in Bengaluru, a big city in India, arrested a 25-year-old man named Asaful Mallik.
Police say he comes from a village in West Bengal and worked as a security guard.
They say he was talking on Facebook with a man from Afghanistan who belongs to a group called the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, or TTP.
He reportedly wanted to join the group and take revenge against the Pakistan Army, and he was also planning attacks in India.
Police say he was upset because he believed the Pakistan Army hurt Muslims and mosques, and because of Pakistan's position on the Israel-Palestine conflict.
He got a passport and applied for a visa to go to Afghanistan, but he never went.
Police say he gave up the plan because he didn't have enough money and had to take care of his family.
Police found messages, phone calls and voice recordings on his phone.
He was arrested on August 11, and a case has been filed against him.
Police are still investigating the case.
Bengaluru Police arrested 25-year-old Asaful Mallik (also reported as Asafool Mallik) from the Bommasandra Industrial Area on August 11 over alleged links with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Mallik allegedly contacted Imran Ahinder (also reported as Imran Haider), an Afghanistan-based TTP member, on Facebook to plan retaliatory attacks against the Pakistan Army and in India.
Police said Mallik was influenced by what he perceived as Pakistan Army atrocities against mosques and civilians, as well as Pakistan's alleged support for Israel in the Israel-Palestine conflict.
He obtained a passport and applied for a visa to travel to Afghanistan but abandoned the plan due to financial difficulties and family responsibilities.
Chats, voice calls and audio recordings were found on his phone, and a case was registered at Hebbagodi police station under Section 113(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
