India Post Makes Historic First Drone Delivery of National Flag

India's postal service, India Post, used a drone — a flying machine that carries things without a pilot inside — to deliver the National Flag for the very first time.

The flag, called the Tiranga, was flown from a town called Mandi to a place called Rehardhar, both in Himachal Pradesh, a mountain state in India with difficult roads.

Because the terrain is so tough, ordinary vehicles often struggle to reach every home.

The minister in charge of communications, Jyotiraditya Scindia, started the flight from far away and watched the take-off live.

When the drone landed, the parcel carrying the flag was given to a former army soldier, which made the moment extra special.

The delivery happened just before Independence Day, when India celebrates its freedom.

India Post says the flag can be delivered to citizens across the country as part of the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, so people can celebrate national pride from home.

India Post also hopes to use drones for mail delivery on 150 routes in Himachal Pradesh and Assam.

That way, people living in remote areas can still receive mail and public services even where normal transport is difficult.
