Kargil Opens Second Passport Seva Kendra for Easier Access
Kargil now has a new place where people can apply for and receive passport-related services.
It is called a Post Office Passport Seva Kendra, or POPSK.
Before it opened, many residents had to travel to Leh, Srinagar or other faraway places.
Those trips could take a lot of time and money.
The new centre brings these services closer to people’s homes.
It may especially help students and workers going abroad.
It may also help people travelling for Haj, Umrah and other international pilgrimages.
This is the second POPSK in Ladakh, after the one in Leh.
Kirti Vardhan Singh and Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena inaugurated a POPSK in Kargil on September 2.
The facility is Ladakh’s second Passport Seva Kendra after Leh and the country’s 457th POPSK.
It was established by the Ministry of External Affairs with the Department of Posts at Kargil’s sub-post office.
Residents previously travelled to Leh, Srinagar or other distant centres for passport-related services.
The centre is expected to reduce travel time and costs for students, workers, pilgrims and other international travellers.
