CSIR–NGRI Marks CSIR’s 85th Foundation Day With Open Day
CSIR–NGRI held an Open Day to celebrate the 85th Foundation Day of CSIR.
About 5,000 people visited the event in Hyderabad.
Many visitors were school and college students.
They learned how scientists study earthquakes, rocks, groundwater and other parts of the Earth.
Scientists showed working models and explained their research.
One model showed how melting ice and rocks can contribute to floods in mountainous areas.
Visitors also saw an earthquake-alert app and a video about research in Antarctica.
The event encouraged young people to become interested in Earth science.
Around 5,000 students, educators and members of the public attended CSIR–NGRI’s Earth science Open Day in Hyderabad.
Nearly 20 exhibits covered topics including earthquakes, groundwater, tectonics, planetary science, geochemistry and natural hazards.
Scientists used working models, demonstrations and interactive displays to explain geophysical research and its practical applications.
Exhibits included a flood model, an earthquake-monitoring Android application prototype and a 3D magnetotellurics visualisation.
CSIR–NGRI Director Dr Prakash Kumar interacted with visitors during the event, which also featured a science quiz and an Antarctica video presentation.
