Six-lane highway link to Zirakpur bypass construction starts in December

Big roads can get very crowded, especially around the cities of Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali.

Many trucks and cars pass through small towns like Dera Bassi and Zirakpur to reach the highway.

That makes traffic move slowly and annoys drivers.

The government is planning to build a brand-new shortcut road.

This new road, called the PR-07 spur, will connect one big highway to another bypass.

It will be about 10 kilometres long and have six lanes.

That means it will be very wide, so lots of vehicles can use it at once.

Because it is built like a special highway, cars can drive without stopping at regular road crossings.

This should take almost 20,000 vehicles out of the busy town roads every day.

Building will start in December, and it should be finished in about two years.
