Airtel Narrowly Surpasses Jio in July Subscriber Additions
Bharti Airtel gained the most new mobile customers in July.
It added 2.69 million users, slightly more than Reliance Jio’s 2.45 million.
Reliance Jio still had the largest total number of mobile customers.
Vodafone Idea and Bharat Sanchar Nigam also gained customers, but added fewer than the two largest companies.
The total number of wireless subscribers in India increased to 1.288 billion.
Broadband subscriptions also grew during the month.
Wired broadband and fixed wireless connections both increased.
More people also asked to keep their phone numbers while changing providers.
This meant there were 15.98 million mobile-number portability requests in July.
Bharti Airtel added 2.69 million mobile subscribers in July, ahead of Reliance Jio’s 2.45 million.
Vodafone Idea added 240,114 users, while Bharat Sanchar Nigam gained 168,874.
India’s wireless subscriber base rose to 1.288 billion, with Reliance Jio retaining the largest total base.
Total broadband subscriptions increased 0.64% to 1.09 billion, led by Reliance Jio with 535.12 million.
Mobile Number Portability requests rose to 15.98 million in July from 14.78 million in June.
