MP Cabinet approves Rs 1,757 crore Bhopal-Vidisha road, six-lane bypass
The government of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh said yes to a big plan to improve roads.
One part is making the road between Bhopal and Vidisha wider, with safer shoulders.
Another part is making the road around Bhopal, called the Bhopal Bypass, wider too.
Widening roads helps cars, buses and trucks move more easily.
The government will pay for part of the work now and the rest over many years.
Drivers will pay a small fee, called a toll, when they use the Bhopal Bypass.
The money from tolls will help build and fix other roads in the state.
The new road will also make it easier for people to visit Sanchi Stupa, a very famous and important historical place.
The government says this will help Bhopal grow into a bigger city and bring new business.
The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet approved development proposals worth around Rs 47,990 crore, including Rs 1,757.55 crore for four-laning the Bhopal-Vidisha road.
The 44.830 km Bhopal-Vidisha road (State Highway-28) will be developed into a four-lane highway with paved shoulders under the Hybrid Annuity Model.
Forty percent of construction cost will come from the State Highway Fund, with 60% paid as semi-annual annuities over a 15-year period.
The Cabinet approved user-fee collection on the 51.963 km Bhopal Bypass from July 19, 2026 to December 31, 2031, as it expands from four to six lanes.
The corridor connects Bhopal and Vidisha districts and provides access to Sanchi Stupa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, supporting Bhopal's development as a metropolitan city.
