Nearly Half of Bengaluru Voters Marked Absent, Shifted or Dead

In a big city called Bengaluru, almost half of the people who can vote have been given a special mark on the voter list.

This mark means they might have moved away, or be missing, or have their name listed twice, or may have passed away.

This number is much higher than the rest of the state of Karnataka.

But election officials say this mark does not mean people lose their voting rights right away.

If someone is marked by mistake, they can ask to have their record fixed.

Special officers called Booth Level Officers and Electoral Registration Officers can undo the wrong marks.

They can do this until August 8.

That is when the enumeration and digitisation phase ends.

So voters should check their records and fix any mistakes before then.
