Drug kingpin Virender Singh Basoya extradited from UAE to India
A man named Virender Singh Basoya is accused of being the big boss of an illegal drug business.
He was hiding in a country called the United Arab Emirates, but police caught him and brought him back to India.
He was arrested at the airport in Delhi when he arrived.
Police say he helped send illegal drugs like mephedrone from India to other countries.
They found many kilograms of drugs that they believe are connected to his network.
Before drugs, police say he used to sell cigarettes smuggled into India from Dubai, for which a government agency called the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested him.
Now he will have to face the court in India.
The Home Minister, Amit Shah, said drug traffickers cannot hide from the law.
Police also say his son may be brought back to India soon.
Fugitive drug kingpin Virender Singh Basoya (50) was returned to India from the UAE under the NCB's Operation Global-Hunt and taken into custody at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Basoya was arrested in the UAE in June 2026 following an Interpol Red Notice that was issued in November 2025.
The probe began after Pune City Police seized 500 grams of mephedrone in February 2024, leading to recoveries of about 1,837 kg of mephedrone (867 kg in Pune, 970 kg in Delhi) and a transfer of the case to the NCB's Mumbai Zonal Unit.
Basoya is accused of coordinating the syndicate from abroad and facilitating the export of mephedrone consignments through courier channels, and police said cartel drugs were moved as medical packages from a Gujarat factory to a fake company, Pharma Solutions Services.
He also figures in a Delhi Police Special Cell cartel case involving more than 1,300 kg of cocaine, mephedrone and hydroponic weed; Union Home Minister Amit Shah hailed the extradition, and NCB officials said his son Rishab (25) may also be returned.
