Andhra Pradesh to Offer Rs 1 Lakh to Donor Families
The Andhra Pradesh government wants to turn 12 teaching hospitals into places where people can get organs like kidneys, livers, and hearts.
They will start with kidney transplants and plan to add liver and heart transplants later.
Right now, almost 6,000 people need organs, but there aren’t enough donors.
The government will give families of donors more money for funeral costs, up to ₹1 lakh, and may give them jobs or pensions.
A famous athlete, P.V. Sindhu, said donor families are real champions and asked people to sign up to donate organs.
12 teaching hospitals will be upgraded into organ transplant centers.
Kidney transplants will start first; liver by 2028 and heart by 2030.
5,935 patients are on the transplant waiting list, but donor numbers are still low.
Government will raise funeral assistance from ₹10,000 to ₹1 lakh and consider jobs/pensions for donor families.
Olympic medalist P.V. Sindhu praised donor families as "real champions" and urged organ pledges.
