Bhopal Municipal Corporation Restarts Sealing Drive Over Residential Commercial Use
Some people in Bhopal use their homes as shops or offices, but the city says that is not allowed.
The city government, called the Bhopal Municipal Corporation, wants to stop this.
It got a strong message from the Supreme Court of India, the country's highest court, that these businesses must eventually close.
The city is now sending final notices, giving people 10 days to stop before action begins.
Earlier, the city sealed some buildings, but many shops reopened after the action was paused.
The city says it will take action against those reopened places within a week.
Some business owners are worried and plan to move their shops to new locations.
Experts say the city should plan carefully, possibly with help from planning specialists, before taking more action.
The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) will restart its sealing drive against commercial establishments operating from residential premises after recent Supreme Court proceedings.
Fresh notices give violators a final 10-day deadline, covering localities such as Arera Colony, Rohit Nagar, Bairagarh, Kolar Road, Chunabhatti, Indrapuri, Kohefiza, Lalghati and Ashoka Garden.
Total notices served now exceed 1,250, and BMC deputy commissioner Bhuvan Gupta said surveys will be held in every Assembly constituency.
Many previously sealed businesses, including Hotel Rajmahal in Rohit Nagar, reopened after enforcement was paused and a high-level state committee was formed.
Expert Professor Dr Krishna Kumar Dhote of MANIT suggested engaging an independent town and country planning expert, citing IIT Delhi's assistance to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
