Bhopal Residents March as Traders Protest BMC Sealing Drive
Bhopal Municipal Corporation Notices Spark Traders’ Protest, Residents Hold Torch March · freepressjournal.in

People living in some Bhopal neighborhoods are unhappy that shops and other businesses are operating in areas meant for homes.

They held a torchlight march on Saturday to ask the city corporation to take stronger action.

The march started at Seva Market in Gulmohar and ended near the former Makhanlal Chaturvedi University campus.

Residents say the corporation has mostly sent notices and conducted surveys.

They want illegal businesses to be sealed or removed.

They also say some places that were closed or sealed later had “TO LET” signs.

Residents believe commercial activity causes more traffic, parking problems, noise, pollution and pressure on public services.

Traders in Awadhpuri held a separate protest against the sealing drive.

The traders said closing their shops before major festivals could seriously hurt their businesses.
