Hawkers Return to Connaught Place, Traders Raise Encroachment Concerns

Street vendors came back to Connaught Place after the BRICS Summit ended.

During the summit, restrictions kept many footpaths and walkways clear.

Traders said this made it easier for people to walk through the market.

They now say some vendors are occupying footpaths and public corridors again.

They also said food and fruit stalls were creating piles of garbage.

The traders’ association blamed the municipal council and police for not stopping prohibited vending.

It said fewer hawkers had returned than before the summit.

However, the association expects their numbers to rise to earlier levels within a few days.
