Kolkata Metro North-South corridor services disrupted by signalling breach

Kolkata is a big city in India with its own train system called the Kolkata Metro.

On Tuesday, one part of the metro's signalling system—the system that tells trains when to stop and go—stopped working.

The problem happened between two stations called Noapara and Baranagar on the North-South line.

Workers noticed the fault while doing a regular inspection.

They fixed the problem in stages to keep passengers safe.

Early in the morning, between 6 am and 6.30 am, trains only ran on a short stretch of the line.

Later, workers turned off power on part of the track, a move called a power block, so repairs could be done safely.

During that time, trains ran only between Noapara and Shaheed Khudiram stations.

By 4.08 pm, the signalling system was working again and normal train service returned.
