Metro Extends Service Hours, Adds More Trains
The Kolkata Metro is extending its service hours and adding more trains on both the Blue Line and Green Line starting Monday.
On the Blue Line, which runs from Shahid Khudiram to New Garia, the first trains will now leave at 6:00 AM instead of 6:50 AM from Monday to Saturday, and the last trains will leave at 10:30 PM instead of 9:44 PM.
On Sundays, the first trains will still leave at 9:00 AM, but the last trains will also leave at 10:30 PM.
The number of trains on weekdays will increase to 272 from 260, and on Saturdays, it will go up to 258 from 246.
On Sundays, there will be 158 services instead of 152.
Similarly, on the Green Line, which connects Sector V and Howrah Maidan, the first trains will leave at 6:00 AM instead of 6:39 AM from Monday to Saturday, and the last trains will leave at 10:30 PM instead of 10:05 PM.
On Sundays, the first trains will still leave at 9:00 AM, but the last trains will leave at 10:30 PM.
The number of trains from Monday to Friday will be 236 instead of 228, and on Saturdays, there will be 212 trains instead of 204.
On Sundays, there will be 111 services instead of 108.
These changes are being introduced on a trial basis, and staff will work overtime to support the revised schedule.
However, there is a staff shortage, and the Metro estimates it needs at least 60 more employees to sustain the enhanced services across 38 stations.
Ticket counters will close at 9:30 PM, and passengers must use smart cards, online tickets, or vending machines after that time.
