Three Maoists including commander carrying Rs 10 lakh bounty surrender
In a part of India called Jharkhand, three members of a banned group called the CPI (Maoist) decided to give up and surrender to the police on Friday.
One of them was an important leader named Saluka Kayam.
The police really wanted to catch him, so they had placed a large reward of Rs 10 lakh on his head.
Two women from the same group, Padmini and Pinki, surrendered along with him.
Padmini also had a reward of Rs 1 lakh on her head.
The three came from villages in the forested Kolhan region.
Police and other security teams have been searching the Saranda and Kolhan forests to increase pressure on the group.
The government also has a special policy that helps people who surrender get a fresh start in life.
Because hiding became difficult and the government offered help, they chose to surrender.
Three members of the banned CPI (Maoist), including zonal commander Saluka Kayam, surrendered before police in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district on Friday.
Saluka Kayam, who carried a Rs 10 lakh reward, was a prominent Maoist leader associated with the South Zone Central Committee and a key figure in the Kolhan region.
The other surrenderees were women cadres Kodo Muni Koda alias Padmini, who carried a Rs 1 lakh reward, and Pinki.
Kayam was part of the group of arrested CPI (Maoist) politburo member Misir Besra, who carried a bounty of over Rs 2.2 crore and was apprehended late last month.
Police attributed the surrender to intensified anti-Maoist operations by police, CRPF and other forces in the Saranda and Kolhan forests, along with the state's rehabilitation and surrender policy.
