Telangana DGP visits Maoist stronghold Karregutta after 50 years
There is a big forest hill in India called Karregutta.
Many years ago, a group of people called Maoists used to hide there, and police were afraid to visit.
For the first time in fifty years, the top police officer of Telangana state, C.V. Anand, went there.
He raised the Indian flag and let white doves fly in the sky to show that peace has come.
He said the hill will become a tourist spot where people can visit.
The dirt road into the forest will be paved so cars can drive there easily.
He also said the government will help Maoists who have surrendered by giving them money, land, jobs and training.
A senior Maoist leader named Samata surrendered and received a cheque for a large sum of money from the government.
The police officer asked the remaining Maoist leaders to stop fighting and join normal life.
This visit shows that the area is now considered peaceful.
Telangana DGP C.V. Anand made the first visit by a director general of police in five decades to the Telangana side of Karregutta, a former Maoist stronghold.
During the visit, Anand hoisted the National Flag and released white doves as a symbol of peace.
Anand said Karregutta will be developed as a tourist spot, with kaccha roads to be tarred and electricity, mobile connectivity and other basic infrastructure to be added.
Nearly 700 Maoists surrendered during Operation Kagar, and coordinated operations by Telangana Police, Greyhounds, CRPF, CoBRA units and Chhattisgarh Police weakened Maoist activity.
The government has provided financial assistance of nearly Rs 2 crore to 23 surrendered Maoists, and a Rs 20 lakh cheque was handed to senior Maoist leader Samata, who surrendered.
