Telangana Minister Tummala hails handlooms at National Handloom Day
A big celebration for handloom weavers happened in Hyderabad, Telangana, on August 7.
Handloom is when people weave cloth by hand on special looms, and it is a very old and proud craft in India.
A minister named Tummala Nageswara Rao came to the event and said handlooms are Telangana's pride.
He gave special awards, called the Konda Laxman Bapuji Handloom Awards, to some weavers for their great work.
He also opened a big exhibition with more than 100 stalls showing handloom clothes and products.
This exhibition will stay open until August 16, and people are asked to buy local handloom items.
The minister said the government wants to save old traditional crafts while also keeping up with modern fashion.
Telangana is the best state in the country at tracking its handloom workers using geo-tagging.
A student named Vaggu Sriram also won a national prize for designing a back support that helps weavers sit comfortably.
The event shows how much the state cares about weavers and their beautiful work.
Handloom and Textile Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao participated in the state-level National Handloom Day programme at Peoples Plaza in Hyderabad on August 7.
The Minister felicitated weavers with the Konda Laxman Bapuji Handloom Awards and inaugurated a handloom exhibition featuring over 100 stalls running until August 16.
Tummala stated that handlooms represent Indian culture and heritage, and the government aims to revive endangered traditional arts while adapting to modern market demands.
Telangana leads nationally in geo-tagging handloom workers, and the Indian Institute of Handloom Technology provides modern skill training.
Student Vaggu Sriram won first prize nationally for designing an ergonomic back support system, demonstrating regional training excellence.
The Minister thanked Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for permitting him to represent farmers and weavers simultaneously, saying both sectors receive equal importance.
