Airbus awards Mahindra contract for A320neo fuselage skins
Airbus has asked Mahindra Aerostructures to make important outer panels for some A320neo airplanes.
These panels are called fuselage skins and will cover parts near the back and tail of the aircraft.
Mahindra will make them at its factory in Bengaluru, India.
The parts will then be sent to an Airbus factory in Augsburg, Germany.
The order includes 11 panels in total.
Mahindra plans to use new machines and processes, including stretch-forming.
This will introduce stretch-forming for aircraft skin panels in India.
Airbus says the deal will help India become more important in global airplane manufacturing.
The first engineering and preparation work has already started, with deliveries planned by 2028.
